A New Standard of Heart Care at Banas Heart Hospital, Deesa

Banas Heart Hospital is located in Deesa, a rural area of North Gujarat. It is a 25 bed single-speciality cardiac health facility. The hospital is built on approximately 3600 sq. ft. area. There are various departments available to facilitate the patients like Cath lab, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Sterile Supply Department, and many more.

What was the hospital's vision?

The hospital’s director and founders’ vision was to provide high end quality care in remote areas, they sought to increase the quality of care in remote areas, strengthen staff, and streamline internal department processes. In addition to patient safety and quality, they sought government collaboration such as MAA Yojana empanelment in order to obtain full NABH accreditation for their facility. For this reason, they wished to accredit their hospital with NABH.

Upon receiving positive reviews from their peers in the Medical field, the hospital approached Medigence. After the initial visit, the Medigence team completed a gap assessment. Early in the initial processes, clients’ needs and vision, and our company workflow were discussed upon which a roadmap was created and implemented. The project was entrusted to us because of the assurance that comes with a registered firm, backed by our experienced project managers and a strong understanding of standards and compliances.

Project Roadmap and Approach

As the timeline was short for the project completion, Medigence initially tried to identify the areas that needed our immediate focused attention. We prepared a detailed training calendar and department wise training was given in the staffs’ native language for better preparedness and confidence.

Once the training continued and a foundation was established, Medigence team developed SOPs and completed the NABH application process. As the assessment approached, we shifted to the practical approach and conducted mock drills for fire and non-fire emergencies and helped the team to be fully prepared and confident for the NABH assessment.

What did we Deliver?

Medigence approached several challenges with experienced Project Managers by helping answer FAQ’s to the staff in their native language for better and deeper understanding of the assessments; conducting several mock drills to get the staff used to the practical approach of this assessment altogether; mock NABH assessments as per the criterias so the staff could be confident; hands-on training for various emergencies, adhering to SOPs created by the leaders and the hospital; enrolling the staff for various training sessions like POI (conducted by hospital infection control), nurse training programmes etc.; providing infrastructure solutions for the autoclave department which plays a vital role; giving practical and cost effective solutions to build CSSD in the hospital, medical record implementation according to NABH standards.

What was the Outcome?

With the guidance of Medigence, the hospital was able to complete the NABH assessment with ease and minor non-compliances against the NABH standards with no major NCs. The assessor was impressed with the implementation process and staff’s awareness of NABH standards and protocols even after the hospital was situated in a peripheral region. The assessor praised and appreciated the hospital stakeholder and quality manager for impactful implementation of NABH standards.
